". . .The Word was given, both in written and living form, to return us to a personal relationship with almighty God. Such a relationship, of course, demands communication, and prayer is communication with God. The Bible, then, is a textbook on prayer. It teaches us the need to pray, the nature of prayer and the rewards of prayer. This is well-known. What seems to have been forgotten by some of today’s generation is that the Bible can also become the very prayer we need to pray." - Judson Cornwall  (Praying the Scriptures, pp. 10, 11.)

“Pray without ceasing.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (King James Version)

A while back I posted “I put together a new prayer guide for Saturday Night Service and thought I’d post the various sections (7 in all) here in case you’re looking for something to pray about!  They have pertinent scriptures as well as a prayer and the 7th one is totally thanksgiving to God.”  I intened to do this daily until all seven were posted but soon got caught up in other things and neglected to do so.  AT any rate, here they all are.  Use them if you feel they might help you in your prayers!

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior … (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

1. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would help our government leaders to trust in You, Lord, with all their heart, and lean not on their own understanding. I pray that in all their ways they will acknowledge You, and You will direct their paths. Help our leaders to turn to You for their strength, knowing that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. (Pro. 3:5-6; Phil. 4:13)

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.  (Matthew 22:37-39)

2. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would help us to first love You with all our hearts, all our souls and all our minds and then to love our neighbors as ourselves. Help us to submit our will to Yours and be content with who we are in You. Help us to love others freely as an act of obedient faith. (Mt. 22:36-39; Ps. 76:9; Gal. 5:14)

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you….Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.  (Hebrews 13:7; 17)

3. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would inspire us, Your church, to give constant prayer to You for our Pastors. Bless our Pastors and fill them with joy, spiritual insight and a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit each week and help them to depend on the Holy Spirit as the only true source of their abilities; to rely on You and the resources You provide through Jesus’ mighty power. Help our Pastors to speak the gospel boldly, without fear and to communicate the truth exactly and accurately. (Acts 12:5; Acts 13:52; Col. 1:29; 2 Cor. 3:5-6; 2 Tim. 1:8; 2:2)

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd….he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (Matthew 9:36; Hebrews 7:24-26)

4. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would help us to be faithful to intercede for other believers. Give us an urgent desire to pray for the lost and the power to win them, especially our “post-it’s.” Fill our hearts with the compassion of Jesus for the lost and hurting and provide opportunities to witness and invite people to the Lord and/or to church. (1 Thes. 3:10; 2 Thes. 1:11; Acts 1:8, Col. 1:28; Mk. 1:41, Mt. 10:36; Col. 4:2-4)

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. (Romans 14:13,19)

5. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would help us to show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight.  Grant us to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus; that with one accord we may with one voice glorify You, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Allow us to pour out the peace You give us to a troubled world.  (Rom. 14:19; Rom. 15:5-6; Eph. 2:14; Col. 1:20)

Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:..(Romans 10:1; Psalm 122:6)

6. Father, We humble ourselves and pray and ask that You would remove the veil You have sovereignly placed over the eyes of Israel, that they would recognize Jesus as their Messiah. Show Your loving kindness to Your people Israel and keep them as the apple of Your eye.  Hide them under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress them, from their deadly enemies who surround them. Cause the church to fulfill its commission to preach the Gospel to the whole world, so the full number of the Gentiles would come into the Kingdom.  Then all Israel will be saved. Turn the hearts of the people of Israel to trust in Your Name for deliverance not in the chariots and horses of their military might.  Raise up intercessors for Israel.  Put more watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem, who will give You no peace day or night until You establish Jerusalem and make her the praise of the earth.  (2 Corinthians 3:14; Psalm 17, 7-9; Romans 11:25-26; Zechariah 4:6; Isaiah 62:6-7)

7. I thank You, God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. I thank You, Father, for qualifying me to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. I thank You, God, for Your indescribable gift of the surpassing grace You have given me. I thank You, Father, in all circumstances, for everything, for this is Your will for me in Christ Jesus. I thank You, Lord, because of Your righteousness and I praise Your name, Most High. I thank You, Father, for You give me the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and Your wonderful deeds for men. I thank You, O God, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds. I thank You, Lord, for You are good and Your love endures forever. I give you thanks, Lord, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. (2 Cor. 2:14; Col. 1:12; 2 Cor. 9:14-15; 1 Thess. 5:18, Eph. 5:20; Ps. 7:17; 1 Cor. 15:57; Ps. 107:8; Ps. 75:1; Ps. 106:1; Ps. 118:21)

I put together a new prayer guide for Saturday Night Service and thought I’d post the various sections (7 in all) here in case you’re looking for something to pray about!  They have pertinent scriptures as well as a prayer and the 7th one is totally thanksgiving to God.

Scripture (NIV):  I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior … (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

Prayer: 1. …help our government leaders to trust in You, Lord, with all their heart, and lean not on their own understanding. I pray that in all their ways they will acknowledge You, and You will direct their paths. Help our leaders to turn to You for their strength, knowing that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. (Pro. 3:5-6; Phil. 4:13)

“The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.”Samuel Chadwick

“Pray, O pray, my brother! never, never quit your hold of the fullness of God; for time is nearly over, and if this fullness be lost it will be lost forever. I am astonished that we do not pray more, yea, that we do not live every moment as on the brink of the eternal world, and in the blessed expectation of that glorious country.”William Bramwell
